Bingo And The Credit Crunch

We may be in the beginnings of a recession but no one wants to give up the simple pleasures in life that we enjoy. As the cost of petrol and going out socially is rising, almost on a daily basis, online bingo offers players a solution of still playing the bingo they love but in the comfort of their own home at a budget that they can set themselves.

Online bingo also offers players the same social entertainment that can be found at their local clubs as online bingo sites offer you the opportunity to gain new friends online who you can chat to in the chat rooms.  There is no need to get dressed up, you can sit in the comfort of your living room, or whether your PC is, in your pj’s (if you wanted to lol) with a nice glass of wine, eating a snack of your choice and chatting to your new friends all whilst playing a few games of bingo.

Most online bingo sites offer players regular promotions, such as offering to pay your utility bills, free bingo, penny bingo, deposit bonuses and chances to win free bingo points in chat games and tournaments which all enables players to play bingo for longer.  Also with more and more sites offering bigger guaranteed jackpot prizes the chances of one day winning a big jackpot are not insurmountable.

It will be interesting to see whether the credit crunch impacts the online bingo industry over the months and years to come.

Bingo On Facebook

Seeing as everyone seems to be spending so much time these days on Facebook, I decided to take a look myself to see what it’s all about.  As I seem to eat, sleep and breathe bingo at the moment I thought I would take a look to see what bingo mentions there were on there.

There were a few applications to play bingo on Facebook.  However, I have to confess none of the applications made me want to play bingo on there although I did add a couple to give them a try.  I guess if I’m skint during the month and want a fix I could try these as a last resort….then again maybe not.

When I searched for bingo in groups the list brought up over 500 groups although I did not search all of them to make sure that they were actually bingo related!

Amongst the groups there were the expected appreciation sites for the big bingo sites such as Foxy Bingo, Wink Bingo etc some official groups and some not so.

There were 34 groups in total for Foxy Bingo, some favourable and others not so.  The Foxy Bingo official group has 589 members with 27 discussion posts.  Having a quick glance through a couple of them they seem to be using the group as their new forum.

I didn’t realise Foxy the Fox had so many enemies with groups such as I dislike the fox!!, Get that annoying bl**dy fox off Jeremy Kyle and lets hurt foxy bingo fox.  I’ll say one thing for advertising, it certainly gets people talking as they either love them or hate them.  Poor Foxy is certainly getting the short straw of his tv fame.  However, don’t people realise….he’s not real he’s a fox!

There are also groups about bingo wings such as The Bingo Wings Appreciation Society, if you have bingo wings and you know it, join this group and the Bingo Wing Sufferers Anonymous .  It just goes to show that you can make up a group for just about anything!

The Obama Bingo Site!

Obama Bingo

Thursday 28th August saw the Obama convention speech take place and two Denver business men came up with the idea of integrating bingo with politics and launched Obama Bingo. The beneficiaries of Obama Bingo were 581 charities that were listed at Obama Bingo for participants to choose from when they purchased their bingo cards for $10.

The whole idea was that the convention speech by Obama was captured and linked in with the site so that whoever scored a line of 5 first under the BINGO heading would be declared the winner.

The bingo board at Obama Bingo was very much like a 75 ball bingo card but all the words were replaced with words that could be used in Obama's convention speech; a bit like Bullshait Bingo that is played in business meetings worldwide.

People who chose to take part in Obama Bingo paid $10 and chose the charity of there choice, they were then allocated a bingo card with 25 words on it. Taking a look at the web site today Obama Bingo raised a grand total of $720.

The winning charity was The AIDS Research Alliance and the word that won bingo was Terrorists with a total of 7 winners from Obama Bingo.

Here is the winning ticket:-

Data taken from the Obama Bingo website.

Total Funds Collected: $720.00
Total Funds for Distribution: $720.00
Number of winning tickets: 7
Word from the speech the initiated 1st bingo: Terrorists

With the political race for the American Presidency I would have expected more than 72 people to have purchased tickets for the game and I am wondering if Obama is elected President will Obama Bingo run another game but this time using Obama's acceptance speech?

Maybe someone in the UK could create a Brown's Bingo in preparation for Gordon Brown's resignation speech or am I being too presumptuous here?

Send Pictures Of Lost Bingo Halls

This is interesting, I spotted it on Google News the other day - they UK bingo site playing bingo has set up a section for old style bingo halls that have closed down, been demolished or are soon to be demolished. The site's owner is asking people to send in photographs and stories of their old bingo halls so as he can add them to the site. I really like that, I love playing online, but you can't beat the atmosphere of a grand old bingo hall.

I'm going to go in the loft, I'm sure I can remember some from the old club I used to frequent in Derby. There's already a page up for it, but no photos so I want to put some together. I remember I took a load one night when there was a big party night. I hope they've not bee thrown out.

King Of The Bingo Game

Well, been a bit quiet lately, but I was looking over at YouTube when I spotted this video. It's the trailer from the American Storytellers TV series on the PBS channel in America. It looks really good, but I doubt we'll see it here in the UK, which is a bit of a shame. Great soundtrack, and it looks well shot and atmospheric.

There's not been many TV series in the UK that I can think of that have been around bingo. There was that Paul O'Grady comedy that was set in a bingo hall, called Eyes Down, but I remember it being really naff, a bit like that When The Whistle Blows spoof show on Extras, but for real. And there was that film House! as well, which I really enjoyed. They should do a full on Casualty style drama in a bingo club, there would be loads going on make it exciting. In the meantime, I'll have to hope this shows up on UK satellite or something similar at some point in the near future.

Online Bingo Site Of The Year Awarded

I just spotted that the 2007 UK online bingo site of the year award was won by Think Bingo. I've tried Think Bingo in the past and found it quite disappointing, so this result surprised me. You can get more details on the awards at this page. Other sites which featured in the top results included Crown Bingo, Mecca Bingo and BingoSKY, which is not to be confused with the forthcoming Sky Bingo (which I think is what they're hoping!)

Free Bingo At You Tube

I started playing bingo at a free bingo site a few months back, to tide me over when I'd didn't have enough money to play at my favourite online bingo sites. It's not quite the same when you only playing for prize points, but the community was good fun and pretty vocal. At one point I even won a T-Shirt, at the end of each month the bonus pounds you have go into a prize draw and that's how I won it. So, they've set up their own video channel to show off their wears and feature other bingo videos and stuff. It's worth a look and can be seen here, as can this video of how to use their site!

Bingo Caller Of The Year Videos And Stuff

Bingocallerprizemoneybo A bit of a departure from online bingo, but this stuff fascinated me. Every year in the UK they have a competition to find the best bingo callers in the land. They all get together and have a competition, then crown the winner the Bingo Caller Of The Year. This year a bloke called Blake Robson won it, and last year's winner Brett Hyrjak was one of the judges. Brett has gone written about the competition, and there's videos and photos and stuff as well. It's a really interesting thing to look at if you like bingo. Brett's round up of the 2007 Bingo Caller Of The Year competition is here.

Which Bingo Launch Best Online Bingo Awards

The UK bingo site Which Bingo has an annual competition to find the best online bingo site in both the world and the UK. With the USA market being closed down loads with the introduction of the UIGEA this year, the focus is increasingly shifting to the UK's bingo scene. Last year Mecca Bingo won the best UK site, and this year competition will be stiff.

If you'd like to find out more about the awards there's a news story here that will be of interest. Don't forget to vote for your favourite online bingo site as well!
